More than 500 people have been killed in Chicago this year
Chicago just reached a terrible milestone: more than 500 people have been killed there so far this year.
Just this past weekend, 65 people were shot — 13 of them killed.

Chicago’s police Superintendant Eddie Johnson says he and his department are doing everything they can do stop the violence. Johnson said:
“It’s not a police issue. It’s a society issue. … Impoverished neighborhoods, people without hope do these kinds of things. You show me a man that doesn’t have hope, I’ll show you one that’s willing to pick up a gun and do anything with it.”
That’s not really the whole story, though. The city has been in turmoil after the release last year of a video of Laquan McDonald being brutally killed by a police officer.
