Apple is doing away with the pistol emoji — and other updates
Did you know that, to many social scientists, emojis are being considered a new form of language?
Interesting food for thought, you can check out the PBS Idea Channel's video about that idea below:
Apple is responding to the weight their little pictures carry and is releasing redesigned emojis which feature more people of color, women playing sports, a pride flag, and a depiction of single parents.
They are also replacing the pistol emoji with a water gun.
The pistol emoji has caused a lot of trouble in recent years, like last year when a 12-year-old was charged with a felony and fined for using the emoji in an Instagram post that police said was considered a death threat.
But the decision to remove it has also been met with controversy.
I just heard apple is replacing the gun emoji with a water gun. Really? Are we really that sensitive?

Apple is phasing out the ? emoji. I wonder if they're doing anything in real life to phase out actual gun violence and police brutality.
