George Zimmerman is trying to profit from killing Trayvon Martin

How much is a life worth? Apparently to George Zimmerman, about $5000.

The former neighborhood watchman who shot and killed unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in 2012 is auctioning the gun he shot him with. The opening bid is starting at $5000.

Literally, he is trying to profit off the young boy's death.

Remind me who Zimmerman and Martin are?

Zimmerman sparked a national debate on race, law enforcement, and stand-your-ground laws when he fatally shot Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, inside a gated community in Florida.

He was ultimately acquitted of second-degree murder, but since then, he's done some pretty outlandish things. This is definitely on that list.

What's the deal with the gun auction?

The Department of Justice apparently just gave the gun back to Zimmerman, and since he is a "free American," as he said, he decided to sell it.

He listed the Kel-Tax PF-9 9mm on a firearms auction website, with a description that labeled it an "American Firearm Icon":

"I am honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American Firearm Icon...The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012... Many have expressed interest in owning and displaying the firearm including The Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. This is a piece of American History."

Oh, and he promised part of the profits will go to fighting against both the Black Lives Matter movement and Hillary Clinton's anti-gun rhetoric.

Before the gun auction began, though, the listing mysteriously disappeared.

But then it got posted on another auction site.
